Ayam Cemani Hatching Eggs

The Ayam Cemani is one of the rarest and most extraordinary chicken breeds in the world. Originating from the island of Java, Indonesia, this remarkable breed is famous for its striking all-black appearance. Due to a genetic trait known as fibromelanosis, Ayam Cemani chickens have black feathers, black skin, black combs, black legs, and even dark-colored internal tissues. Revered for their beauty and rarity, they have become a favorite among poultry enthusiasts and collectors.

Purpose: Ornamental / Breeding

Egg Color: Cream to light tan

Egg Size: Medium

Production: 80–150 eggs per year

Mature Weight:

  • Hens: 4–5 lbs

  • Roosters: 5–6 lbs

Temperament: Alert, intelligent, calm

Hardiness: Good in both warm and cold climates with proper shelter

A Truly One-of-a-Kind Breed

Few chickens capture attention like the Ayam Cemani. Their glossy, beetle-green sheen over jet-black feathers creates an unforgettable appearance unlike any other breed. From their combs and wattles to their legs and beaks, nearly every visible feature is black, making them one of the most sought-after ornamental chickens in the world. Their rarity and unique genetics have made them highly prized among breeders and backyard flock enthusiasts alike.

Rare Beauty with Heritage Appeal

While Ayam Cemani hens produce fewer eggs than production breeds, they lay a steady supply of medium-sized cream to light tan eggs throughout the season. These birds are active, alert, and excellent foragers when given space to roam. Their elegant appearance and fascinating history make them an exceptional addition to ornamental flocks, breeding programs, or anyone looking to own one of the world's most unique chicken breeds.

Management Notes

Ayam Cemani are hardy birds that thrive with quality nutrition, clean housing, and protection from harsh weather. They are active and enjoy free-ranging but also adapt well to secure coops with adequate space. Hens may occasionally become broody and can make attentive mothers. Because of their rarity and value, many owners choose to keep them in predator-proof enclosures and maintain dedicated breeding groups to preserve their exceptional genetics and striking appearance.
