Bantam Blue Cochin

The Bantam Blue Cochin is a compact, eye-catching show favorite known for its soft, abundant feathering and calm, gentle nature. With its beautiful slate-blue coloration and signature “fluffy ball” appearance, this bantam variety brings elegance and charm to any flock while maintaining the sweet temperament Cochins are famous for.

Production: 100–150 eggs per year

Mature Weight:Hens: 26–30 ozRoosters: 30–34 oz

Stunning Blue Coloration

Bantam Blue Cochins display a soft, even slate-blue feather pattern that may include subtle darker edging. Their rounded bodies, feathered legs and feet, and full tail create the classic “cushion” look that makes them a standout in exhibition pens. The blue variety is especially popular for its striking yet elegant appearance.

Gentle & Easy to Handle

These bantams are known for their exceptionally calm disposition. They are easy to manage, making them ideal for youth poultry projects, small backyard flocks, and breeders who enjoy interactive birds. Their friendly personality makes them one of the most approachable bantam breeds.

Excellent Broody Instincts

Like their standard counterparts, Bantam Blue Cochins are dependable brooders. Hens often go broody and make attentive mothers, capable of incubating and raising small clutches of chicks with care.

Management Notes

Due to heavy feathering, housing should remain dry and clean to protect feather condition and prevent foot issues. While very cold-hardy, they are less tolerant of extreme heat because of their dense plumage. Provide adequate ventilation and shade during warm weather. Feathered feet may require occasional cleaning in muddy conditions.
