Bantam Blue Cochin

The Bantam Blue Cochin is a charming miniature version of the Cochin, known for its soft blue-gray plumage, feathered legs, and rounded, fluffy appearance. This petite ornamental breed excels as a gentle pet and broody mother, offering sweet temperament and decorative appeal in smaller flocks or for families seeking cuddly birds.

  • Purpose: Ornamental & pet (eggs)

  • Egg Color: Brown

  • Egg Size: Small

  • Production: 80–150 eggs per year

  • Mature Weight:

    • Hens: 1.5–2 lbs

    • Roosters: 2–2.5 lbs

  • Temperament: Extremely docile, calm, friendly

  • Hardiness: Good cold tolerance (dense feathering)

Bantam Blue Cochin hens typically begin laying around 22–26 weeks of age. They are moderate layers of small brown eggs and are highly broody, often making dedicated and attentive mothers.

They feature a single comb and profuse soft feathering that covers the legs and feet, giving them a ball-like, adorable silhouette. The dense plumage helps with cold hardiness, but dry conditions are essential to avoid mud balls on feathered feet or health issues in wet environments.

The soft blue-gray color creates a lovely, powder-like look across their fluffy feathers. As bantams, they are ideal for smaller spaces or as pets, thriving in confined setups while adding charm and personality to any coop. Slight variations in shade (lighter to darker blue) can occur.

Hatching Egg Description: Bantam Blue Cochin hatching eggs are small with brown shells. These fertile eggs hatch into tiny, fluffy chicks that grow into miniature, gentle birds prized for their docility and mothering instincts. Customers love them for cute small brown eggs, exceptional pet qualities, and the delightful, cuddly presence they bring to backyard flocks.
