Lavender Orpington Hatching Eggs

The Lavender Orpington is a stunning variety of the classic Orpington breed, admired for its soft, silvery-gray plumage and gentle personality. Originally developed from the traditional Orpington created in Orpington, this variety carries the unique lavender gene that gives each feather its beautiful pale, smoky coloring.

  • Purpose: Dual-purpose (eggs & meat)

  • Egg Color: Light brown to tinted

  • Egg Size: Large

  • Production: 180–250 eggs per year

  • Mature Weight:

    • Hens: 6–7 lbs

    • Roosters: 8–9 lbs

  • Temperament: Gentle, calm, friendly

  • Hardiness: Cold hardy

Lavender Orpington hens typically begin laying around 18–22 weeks of age. While bred more for beauty and exhibition than high production, they still provide a steady supply of large, light brown eggs throughout the laying season.

Their soft lavender coloring is evenly distributed across their plush, full feathering, giving them a striking yet elegant appearance. The contrast of their pale feathers with bright red combs and wattles makes them stand out in any flock.

Like other Orpington varieties, Lavender Orpingtons are known for their sweet, docile temperament. They are easy to handle, integrate well into mixed flocks, and are a favorite among families and first-time chicken keepers. Hens may go broody and can make attentive mothers.
