Silver Laced Wyandotte

The Silver Laced Wyandotte is a striking American heritage breed admired for its bold black-and-white laced plumage and dependable dual-purpose performance. Developed in the late 1800s in the United States and named after the Wyandot people, this breed quickly became a favorite for both beauty and productivity.

  • Purpose: Dual-purpose (eggs & meat)

  • Egg Color: Brown

  • Egg Size: Medium to Large

  • Production: 200–260 eggs per year

  • Mature Weight:

    • Hens: 6–7 lbs

    • Roosters: 8–9 lbs

  • Temperament: Calm, alert, hardy

  • Hardiness: Excellent cold tolerance

Silver Laced Wyandotte hens typically begin laying around 18–20 weeks of age. They are steady producers of brown eggs and tend to lay well through colder months, making them a reliable choice for year-round egg baskets.

One of their most notable features is their rose comb, which sits close to the head and is less prone to frostbite than larger single combs. Combined with their full, dense feathering, this makes them particularly well-suited for colder climates.

Each feather is outlined in glossy black, creating a crisp “laced” pattern over a silver-white base. This bold contrast makes them a standout in any flock and a popular choice for exhibitions and backyard enthusiasts alike.
