Impressive Size & Beauty

Standard Blue Cochins are large, round-bodied birds covered from head to toe in soft, full feathering — including their legs and feet. The blue coloration offers a beautiful slate-gray tone with darker lacing, creating a striking and elegant appearance. Their broad stance and abundant plumage make them a standout in exhibition settings and backyard flocks alike.

Gentle & Family-Friendly

Cochins are well-known for their sweet, laid-back personalities. They are easy to handle, making them ideal for families, youth poultry projects, and breeders who enjoy interacting with their birds. Their calm nature also allows them to integrate well into mixed flocks, though their size may require monitoring around more aggressive breeds.

Excellent Broodiness

Standard Cochins are famous for their strong broody instincts. Hens often make dedicated mothers and will readily hatch and raise chicks, including other breeds. This makes them an excellent choice for those looking for natural incubation and attentive mothers.

Management Notes

Due to their heavy feathering, Blue Cochins require dry, clean housing to maintain feather condition and prevent foot issues. While they tolerate cold extremely well, they are less heat-tolerant because of their dense plumage. Provide shade and ventilation in warmer climates. Their feathered feet may also require occasional cleaning in muddy conditions.
